Simple Pleasures

  Simple Pleasures

The older I get the more I enjoy life's simple pleasures. Things like a family room full of laughter while you watch toddlers run and play through the house.

Things like, watching parents hover around their first born with all the awe and wonder imaginable; their countenance lighting the delivery room as the noon day sun, joyful in what God has given them - something of their likeness, something of their own.

Lumbering along a beautiful hiking trail hearing in the distance a cascading waterfall that you’ve never seen before. You're every step hastening as you draw closer and closer to the wonder of what nature has to share.

Coffees first sip on a cool wintery day as you slip into a worn flannel that should have been discarded years ago, but there’s just something about the way it feels.

A new pair of socks. Who would have ever thought they could feel so good!

The return glance; I think he/she is looking at me - Could this be the one? Wedding bells are ringing in the far distance, Excitement fills the air.

A long drive on a winding country road with the one you love. Windows down, the air is filled with the sights and sounds of summer - memories are in the making.

A long ago friend who’s been hoping they might bump into you, and did. The minutes turn to hours as you share memories of days gone by.

The whisping wind rustling the fall leaves as you walk the pre-winter trail.

The summer sun browning your pale skin while vacationing at your favorite beach as the wind courses through your hair while you lay listening to the sound of the waves crashing the shore.

Is that popcorn I smell? O’ the memories, the drive in movies, the theatre, the cool you feel while being out with friends or a date.

Who can forget their first time driving, getting their license? Mom/Dad needs something from the store - you volunteer to drive there all by yourself. It’s as if it were a mission from God. Was there any cooler version of you than that? Especially if a friend saw you passing by. You were king of the road if only for a moment.

I hope some of these things have triggered fond memories for you.
